Social Networking

I saw Steve Noble’s home page and I like how he delineates how he uses various social networks. I am doing something similar on my site because sometimes people try to “friend” me on various social networks in a way that makes me feel a bit awkward (to be perfectly honest).

  • Facebook: I use this site to connect (and reconnect) with high-school and college classmates, as well as coworkers with whom I have become especially close.
  • LinkedIn: This is one of my favorite sites and I am quite protective about who I “friend” here. (Check out Ari Herzog’s excellent LinkedIn post to better understand my rationale).
  • MySpace: I don’t update my profile here any more… I’ve become much more into Facebook.
  • Twitter: I share links to pages and posts which interest me…and see what online resources the people I am following recommend. Twitter has become one of the most-important ways that I discover new sites, trends and ideas online. I also use Twitter to connect with peers and industry leaders.
  • FriendFeed: This site aggregates all of a person’s social-networking activity.
  • Brightkite: I started using this social network in October 2008. It integrates with Twitter and displays my current location and my activities.
  • KoMarketing Blog: You can read some of my posts on my former employer’s blog. (My bylines are gone, but my post on using GTD and Outlook 2007 is still one of the site’s most-popular pages).
  • Pandora Radio: I spend a lot of time listening to my Pandora stations. You can stay up to date with what I am listening to at the moment (if that’s important to you…).
  • Picasa: I don’t take that many pictures, but I post some photos here.
  • AOL Instant Messenger: Call me “old school”, but AIM is a form of social networking. I’m “nooozeguy” there too.
  • Google Talk: I’m generally logged in to GMail throughout the day (except when I am logged in under a client’s AdWords account).
  • Google Profile: In November 2008, I started updating my Google profile (somewhat) regularly.
  • Here are two lists of social networks I have compiled. One is for a science-related social networks and the other is for ones related to banks and financial institutions.
