?nüz – ?g?\ (Where “nooozeguy” comes from)

So, you may be wondering where the nickname “nooozeguy” comes from and how to pronounce it.

The story dates back to my college days in the mid 90s, when I worked on Emory University’s student-run newspaper, the Wheel. (Find out more about me, Josh Fialkoff).

My nickname was “scoop” because I was often tracking a breaking news story around Atlanta.

But (horrors!) there already was a “scoop” online, as well as my second choice, “news guy”. For a time, I tried the name “noozeguy”. Then I discovered that someone already had that name.

(I have also used my last name, “Fialkoff“. That didn’t seem like a very good domain name though, since I apready spend countless hours each day at work spelling my name to people.)

That’s when I made up, “nooozeguy”.

Since then, I have used it for most of my online personas.

A few people have misunderstood it. One person thought it was pronounced, “no-ooze-guy.” That seems a little gross to me.

Now you know the whole story… and there are a few minutes you will never get back.
