LinkedIn Wish List

LinkedIn is one of my favorite sites, so it’s with a bit of remouse that I write this post.

The truth is, I wish LinkedIn did a few things better.

  • RSS feeds: I wish I could get RSS feeds for LinkedIn Answers. I would love to be able to spend a half hour a day answering questions on LinkedIn. I could end up helping someone and it would be a big boost to both my ego and my stature on the site.
But, I am too lazy busy to go to LinkedIn that often.
So, instead, I look at other people’s answers and wonder whether I could’ve written something better.
  • RSS feeds for parts of my public profile: I would love to be able to list the recommendations I have received from colleagues on LinkedIn on my site.
But, there’s no way (or at least not one that I have found) to do this.
Instead, I have a generic link to my LinkedIn page, but that’s an extra step that someone may not take.
  • CRM functionality: I’ve got some great connections…and I call on them for help from time to time. But, if LinkedIn had more robust search functionality, I could use the site for serious lead generation. If I knew who was looking for a certain product or service at a given time, for instance, I could point them in the right direction, or take them on as a client. I don’t know of a way to do that now, without spending an inordinate amount of time poking around my contact list.
  • Job feeds: I’m not looking for a job at the moment, but in the past I have used LinkedIn to find openings and to make connections to prospective employers.
But because there’s no RSS feed for job searches, I have had a hard time keeping up with new listings.

Now I realize that I could use an RSS maker to make a “fake” RSS feed for some of these LinkedIn services, but I truly wish this innovative site would continue to innovate. Right now, I feel like LinkedIn is moving slowly and unsteadily.

What do you think?
