Web Portfolio

I have worked on many sites in the past decade or so. I am listing many of them here. But please don’t think that I am taking ALL the credit for these sites. On some sites I played a minor role, while on other sites, I played a more substantial role. Find out more about my online marketing skills here. You can also check out some of my published writing and TV news reports.

I will try to be as specific as possible when describing my involvement, but it’s important to keep in mind that developing a Website (like a TV newscast) is a team effort.

  • Homestore.com: This site is now part of the Move.com network. Much of the work I did between 1999 and 2001 is no longer live (and I did not save copies of my work at the time). I did find a number of pages on the Wayback Machine, which are a riot to look at today. (I especially like how on the Homestore pages, the nav bars are in different formats. The bureaucracy, distance from headquarters and general craziness prevented us from making those match.):
    • Home Tech: I helped John W. Davis produce this section, along with Mel Shettle and Matt Geiger (though he deserves none of the blame for the design of the pages). It was a great time to be working on the Web. There were not a lot of rules, so we basically tried a lot of different techniques, some of which actually worked.
    • Lawn & Garden: I did a lot of the strategic planning for this section, though a good friend of mine, Sarah Gleim, actually produced it (along with a lot of help from CJ Sutherland, Tiffany McKinnon, Margaret Waguespack, Mel Shettle, Carlyle Rood and Ryan Sanderson).
    • Safety & Security: This was the first “tab” on Homestore.com that I primarily planned, launched and produced.
  • Blaze Entertainment: This is a site I produced for my brother back in 2002. I was so into Flash at this point, though I don’t work in Flash myself.
  • TheDarstGroup.com: Fast forward to 2008… when I am building Websites in WordPress primarily. I made this site for my uncle, who was starting a consulting business. It’s a pretty simple business-card type site.
  • Machinefinder.com: I worked on this site (a unit of John Deere) when I was KoMarketing Associates. We did a lot of SEO and PPC for Machinefinder. I also helped a bit on a redesigned site.
  • Abel Womack.com: I also worked on this site at KoMarketing. This material handling & warehouse solutions provider started working with the firm at about the same time as I did, so I was able to manage the SEO and PPC project from the beginning.
  • Dawn Nelson.org: I built this site for the renowned Jamaica Plain artist in exchange for a piece of her art. (The great thing is we both think we got the best part of the bargain…). Again, I built this site entirely using WordPress. It’s the best site I have done so far, in my view.
  • BostonFreedomForum.org: I advised the American Jewish Committee of Boston on this site, which was originally created as a venue to discuss the Durban Review Commission Meeting in April 2009. I helped AJCBoston select a WordPress development vendor and worked with the group on developing a marketing strategy.
  • JewishBoston.com: I am helping to conceptualize a new site whose goal is to encompass everything Jewish in Boston. It is being organized by Combined Jewish Philanthropies. The goal is to have it go live before the end of 2009. Cross your fingers. ;-) It’s an ambitious goal.
